Modify a slide

To modify a slide, click on the slide thumbnail from the Slide Sorter workspace so it appears in the Slide Editor workspace. To add and modify objects (images, text boxes or shapes) in the slide, see the box below.

Background colour

  • For a single slide, go to the Format menu bar item and select Background, or right click in the Slide Editor workspace and select Slide background.
  • For more than one slide at a time, select the slides and right click in the Slide Sorter workspace, and choose Background.
  • To set the default, go to the Edit menu bar item, select Preferences and under Defaults set the background.

Insert an image

Click and drag an image from the Image Palette workspace to the box named Place Image Here in the Slide Editor workspace. Add images to the Image Palette workspace.

  • Resize the image within the box: Click on the image box and select the Zoom In or Zoom Out icons (magnifying glasses) from the Slide Editor workspace toolbar and repeatedly click on the image. Alternatively, right click or go to the Format menu bar item and under Image choose from Zoom In, Zoom Out, Actual Size and Fit to Frame.
  • Move the image within the box: Click on the image box and select the Pan icon (crossed arrows) from the Slide Editor workspace toolbar and click and drag the image in position.

Insert text

Double click on the phrase Double click to add text and commence typing. To insert image data, click and drag the image from the Image Palette workspace to the text box. This will replace any exisiting text.

  • When inserting image data, choose the data fields you want to display, and opt to add their labels. Tips: Right-click over a thumbnail from the Image Palette workspace to Edit Image Data or Show Image Data. From the Slide Editor workspace, click on the text box to edit and format as needed (a small green arrow appearing at the bottom right side corner of this box indicates that there is hidden text; to view, edit the visible text by deleting lines or by changing the font size, or simply enlarge the text box until the small green arrow disappears).
  • Font and paragraph alignment: For options, first start by clicking in the text box to highlight. Select the Change the font of the selected text icon (f) from the Slide Editor workspace toolbar, or right click in the text box. Alternatively, right click in the text box within the Slide Sorter workspace and select Font, or go to the Format menu bar item and under Text select Font. To set default, go to the Edit menu bar item, select Preferences and under Defaults set the preferred font colour, family, style and/or size.

Remove an object (image, text box or shape)

Select the box and hit the Delete key. To under, hit the X key while holding the Ctrl key.

Add and modify an object (image, text box or shape) in a slide

Add an object: Select the Add a text box icon (t in dotted frame), the Add an image icon (shaded box in dotted frame), or Add a shape icon (square and circle in dotted frame*) from the the Slide Editor workspace toolbar, or go to the Insert or Format (choose Image or Text) menu bar items.

* Suggestion: Add a shape (circle/oval, square/rectangle, arrow) to highlight a detail of an image or point to text.

Order overlapping objects: Select the top object. Right click or go to the Format menu bar item and under Order choose the appropriate option to reposition the selected object (layer). Example: Overlap text or shapes on an image.

Move an object (text box, image or shape) within the slide: Click on the Select and move objects icon from the Slide Editor workspace toolbar, and click and drag the object into position. Alternatively, click on the object, go to the Format menu bar item and choose from the options under Move.

Resize or reshape the object: Click on the object in the Slide Editor workspace and click and drag the bleu outline into position (does not apply to zoomable images).

Add a border, modify background colour and opacity: Click on the object and select the Edit the properties for the selected object icon (boxed list) from the Slide Editor toolbar, or right click, or go to the Format menu bar item and select Properties.

Copy and paste an object (text box, image or shape) from one Slide to another

  1. Select by clicking on the object to be copied from the slide in the Slide Editor workspace.
  2. From the Edit menu bar item, or by right clicking on the object, choose Copy.
  3. The slide in which the objet will be added must appear in the Slide Editor workspace. Either create a new slide or click on the slide thumbnail from the Slide Sorter workspace.
  4. Click anywhere in the slide or on a specific object over which to paste the object and go to the Edit menu bar item, or right click and choose Paste. Note: It may be necessary to order overlapping objects, move an object within the slide, or modify the object (see above).

Rearrange the slides

Select a slide thumbnail and drag it into position in the Slide Sorter workspace. A vertical line will appear between images to indicate the placement.

To better manage, enlarge the Slide Sorter workspace by clicking on the Maximize/restore button (single square) at the upper right side corner; click on the same button (double square) to restore it to its original size.

Remove a slide

  1. Select the slides to delete (click on the slide thumbnail from the Slide Sorter workspace or to select more than one click on the first and the last while holding the Shift key to choose all slides in between the two, or hold the Ctrl key to randomly select or deselect).
  2. Hit the Delete key. Alternatively, choose Remove a slide from the Edit or Insert menu bar items, by clicking on the icon (shaded box with a minus sign at the upper right corner) from either the Slide Sorter or Slide Editor workspace toolbars, or by right clicking within the Slide Sorter workspace.
