Introduction

Students involved in this project will need to make on-site visits to Library and Archives Canada to examine, collect and record information and upload a selection of material to the project website. Here are the guidelines and procedures related to research access to archival material.

Library and Archives Canada's (LAC's) services to the public are provided in its main building located in downtown Ottawa: 395 Wellington Street, Ottawa, ON

Preparing for your visit

Please be sure to read this section carefully if you are planning on ordering additional materials from LAC.

Make sure that you request your research card and order your material in a timely manner. Order the boxes you wish to consult at least 3 working days prior to your scheduled visit. Please note that there is a maximum of 10 boxes that can be viewed by a researcher during a visit.

  • if you are onsite, submit a request using the paper form with the full archival reference
  • retrievals usually take 24-48 hours, but can take longer
  • there are no retrievals during evenings or weekends
  • if you are offsite, you can request up to 10 published items in advance of your visit.
