UN Documents Available Online

Many UN documents are available online:

  • All UN documents from 1993
  • All resolutions of the Principal Organs from 1946
  • Security Council plenary documents from 1946
  • General Assembly Official Records (GAOR) from 1946 
  • Economic and Social Council Official Records (ESCOR) from 1946 
  • Trusteeship Council Official Records (TCOR) from 1946

UN documents are available online through:

the United Nations Digital Library, the online catalogue of UN documents and publications
the Official Document System (ODS), which includes documents not collected by the Library

Find UN Documents

Each UN document has a unique symbol at the top corner of the document, on the front or back cover, or on a title page. Consult the UN Document Research Guide to learn more about UN Document Symbols.

Procedure for locating documents from the UN Collection

Documents prior to 1993 are kept in MRT Storage, and need to be requested. To retrieve a document, please follow these steps:

  • Find the UN Document symbol
  • Email the library service desk with the UN document symbol along with your student number and contact information. 
  • MRT service desk will contact you once the documents are available for retrieval. 
    • Note: Request will be treated as soon as possible. Please allow for 2-4 hours for your request to be processed.  Request received outside regular hours of operation will be treated the next business day. 
  • If you are consulting Microfiche, users can proceed to the Media Center room on the main floor to use a microfiche reader.
    • Users have an option to print and/or save the document on a USB key.  

Items may be loaned for a period of 4 hours.  Exceptions are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
