Library Student ToolBox: Research Tips

Avoid plagiarism!

Plagiarism is claiming the words, ideas, images or data of another individual as if they were your own. The University takes plagiarism (or even the attempt to plagiarize) very seriously. It addresses this problem by thoroughly warning and, if there is proof that plagiarism occurred, sanctioning the person in question.

In order to avoid plagiarism, always (really, always!) cite the books, articles or any other sources you consulted for your paper.

Sanctions for plagiarism are very stiff (e.g. loss of any scholarship opportunity or even expulsion from the University of Ottawa) and plagiarizing never results in any gains.
