How to Use Omni

Place a hold

  • ​​​​​​On the Omni main page, click on My Account. 

  • Login to your account

 

  • Launch your search in OMNI 
  • Once you find a book that you need, click on the title to view the details

  • Click ''Place a hold''.

 

  • Select a pickup University from our OMNI partners.

a) If you want to retrieve your book from one of the University of Ottawa’s libraries, no changes are required for this field as the University of Ottawa appears by default. 

b) Please note: This option only appears if you are eligible for the service or if the item can be picked up at another university. If you have any questions, contact us at bibliolibrary@uottawa.ca  

 

 

  • Select a pickup library. Only the libraries from the University you have selected will appear in the drop-down menu. 

a) Please note: Do NOT select home delivery options from other universities. If you would like a book from the University of Ottawa collection mailed to you, please fill out the Home Delivery form.

  • Click on ''Send Request''.

 

 

Get it from another library

  • On the Omni main page, click on My Account.

  • Login to your account

 

  • Enter a search term in the Omni search box and choose the “uOttawa Library + Omni Libraries” search scope.

  • When you find an item that is not available at the University of Ottawa, click on the title of the item or on “Not available locally, check for more options”.

  • Click on “Get it from another library”. 

a) Note: This option only appears if you are eligible. If you have any questions, contact us at bibliolibrary@uottawa.ca

  •  A pre-filled request form will appear on the screen.

 

  • Select a pickup University from our OMNI partners. 

a) If you want to retrieve your book from one of the University of Ottawa’s libraries, no changes are required for this field as the University of Ottawa appears by default.

  • Select a pickup library from OMNI partners. Only the libraries from the University you have selected will appear in the drop-down menu.

a) This step is only necessary if you have chosen a university other than the University of Ottawa 

b) Please note: Do NOT select home delivery options from other universities. This option is only valid for students/staff/faculty from that University. The document will not be mailed to you. 

 

 

  • Select your University of Ottawa library  

a) You always have to choose a University of Ottawa library in case it is not possible to send the document to the University you have chosen.

  • Check the box ''Yes, I have selected the library where I will pick up my item''. 

 

  • Click '' Send Request ''.

 

  •  A confirmation message will appear on the screen.

  • To view the status of your request, click on your name in the upper right corner of the screen.  

 

  • Click on “My Library Account”.

  • Select the “Requests” tab.
