How to Use Omni

Request from OMNI partner Libraries

You can use Omni to request books quickly and easily from across all 16 Omni partner institutions.

This is like having an interlibrary loan feature inside OMNI, just for OMNI partners.

Only physical books can be borrowed, not e-resources.

If you make a request and it can’t be fulfilled, you will be notified and then you can choose to use RACER  to fill your request

This OMNI lending feature does not replace RACER.

How to make a request

Please Note: This procedure is still under development and is subject to change (instructions and screenshots were accurate at the time this procedure was created). If you want to place a request, you can do so. This will help us test the system, but please note there could be delays or technical issues. Alternatively, you can place your request through RACER, as per usual.

 

  • Enter a search term in the Omni search box and choose the “uOttawa Library + Omni Libraries” search scope. 

 

  • When you find an item that is not available at the University of Ottawa, click on the title of the item or on “Not available locally, click for more options”.

 

  • You will see that the item is available at another Omni library. Click on “Please sign in to check if there are any request options”.

 

  • After logging in, click on “Get it from another library”.
  • Note: This option only appears if you are eligible. If you have any questions, contact us at bibliolibrary@uottawa.ca  

 

  • A pre-filled request form will appear on the screen. Choose your preferred pickup location and click “Send Request”.

 

  • A confirmation message will appear on the screen.  

 

  • To view the status of your request, click on your name in the upper right corner of the screen. 
  • Click on “My Library Account”. 

 

  • Select the “Requests” tab.
