This Accessibility LibGuide provides information on how to create LibGuides that are accessible to all. 

The LibGuide is also intended to be used as a tool to assist in the creation of LibGuides that meet required accessibility standards under the Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act. It offers tips and guidelines on how to make an accessible and user-friendly LibGuide.

The Accessibility for Ontario with Disabilities Act, Integrated Accessibility Standard specifies that organizations make their Internet websites and web content conform with the World Wide Web Consortium Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.0, initially at Level A and increasing to Level AA. WCAG 2.0 isn an internationally accepted standard for web accessibility. It sets out guidelines for organizations to make their websites more accessible.

  • New web content must conform with WCAG 2.0 Level A as of January 1, 2014.
  • By January 1, 2021, all Internet websites and web content must conform with WCAG 2.0, Level AA, Captions (Live), and success criteria 1.2.5 Audio Descriptions (Pre-recorded).
